The annual Tusk Conservation Awards were established in 2013 in partnership with Ninety One and in conjunction with HRH The Prince of Wales. The Awards recognise cutting-edge conservation leaders and their positive impacts on wildlife conservation and local communities across Africa.

As world leaders convene this week at COP16 of the Convention on Biological Diversity to set ambitious targets to safeguard nature under the Global Biodiversity Framework, it is essential to acknowledge and support the work efforts of African conservationists whose projects align with global ambitions.

“Tusk’s Conservation Awards honour Africa’s visionary conservationists and ensure that significant funding is directed to their innovative projects. The Awards remind us that while global agreements are crucial, it is these on-the-ground collective efforts that turn policies into reality.”
Nick Bubb, CEO of Tusk.

The 2024 ceremony will honour Africa’s frontline conservationists with three awards:

  • The Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa, sponsored by Ninety One is a lifetime achievement award, given to a distinguished individual for their dedication and exceptional continued contribution to conservation in Africa.
  • The Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa, sponsored by Defender, is given to an emerging leading conservationist, in recognition of outstanding success shown in their chosen field.
  • The Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award gives international recognition to the dedication and commitment of an individual who works in the field to protect Africa’s wildlife. The award is sponsored by the Nick Maughan Family Foundation.

“The Tusk Awards recognise the selfless and unwavering commitment of Africa’s most dedicated conservationists, encouraging generations of all ages to join the fight to save our planet.”
Hendrik du Toit, Founder and Chief Executive of Ninety One

The Tusk Conservation Awards are made possible thanks to the continued generosity and support from: Ninety One, Nick Maughan Family Foundation, DHL, Defender, ISPS Handa, Fortemus Films & Gallantium, Shelton Fleming, Justerini & Brooks, Patrick Mavros, Mantis Group and Accor, The Savoy Hotel.
