Tachila Nature Reserve Tachila Nature Reserve
Location: North East District
The Tachila Nature Reserve has been established on 8,000 hectares of donated land 5km from the boundary of Francistown. The aim is to preserve part of the natural and historical heritage in order to provide a practical environmental education and recreational facility for its peoples, promote wildlife and other natural resource conservation, and increase local eco-tourism potential and employment opportunities.
Botswana Predator Conservation Trust Botswana Predator Conservation Trust
Location: Ngamiland District
The Botswana Predator Conservation Trust has a dual mission. Firstly - to study the behavioural ecology and communication systems of the African wild dog, cheetah, leopard, lion, and spotted hyena, and to apply this knowledge to promote solutions for the preservation of Africa's large predators and their habitats. Secondly - to link conservation and environmental issues to decision making in the ongoing development of rural Botswana.
Mokolodi Nature Reserve Mokolodi Nature Reserve
Location: Gaborone
The Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation, a non-profit organisation, was formed in 1991 with the aim of promoting wildlife conservation and environmental education for the children of Botswana. The philosophy behind Mokolodi is that income from tourism and the sustainable use of wildlife and natural resources is used to subsidise the environmental education programme.
Moremi Game Reserve Moremi Game Reserve
Location: Ngamiland District
As with many countries throughout Africa, Botswana's rhino population has been decimated. However, on Chief's island in the Okavango Delta a team of people from Wilderness Safaris and the Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks have succeeded in re-introducing White Rhino into the Delta.
Makgadikgadi Wetland Working Group Makgadikgadi Wetland Working Group
Location: Makgadikgadi Salt Pans
One of the largest ephemeral wetlands in Africa, the Makgadikgadi salt pan complex is home to many important and threatened migratory bird species and comprises the most important breeding site in southern Africa for Greater and Lesser Flamingos, two high profile species in decline in the region.
