Don McCullin CBE:  “War and Peace”

TICKETS HAVE NOW SOLD OUT FOR THIS EVENT

A rare opportunity to hear Don McCullin, CBE Hon FRPS, the legendary British photojournalist.  Don will be speaking on the theme of “War and Peace” at the exclusive Christie’s Lecture in aid of Tusk.

Don is particularly recognized for his war photography and images of urban strife. His career, which began in 1959, is renowned for examining the human suffering of conflict and the underside of society.  From Biafra to the current conflicts in the Middle East, it is his photographs of Vietnam and Cambodia that have become among the most famous and iconic.

McCullin took huge risks in order to take his photographs. He was threatened with a knife at a Muslim checkpoint in Beirut for having a Falangist press pass, blinded by CS gas during a riot in Derry, and wounded by fragments of mortar shell in Cambodia. He has a head full of demons, and bears a heavy burden of doubt and guilt, “It’s as if you are carrying the suffering of the people you have photographed.”

In recent years, McCullin has continued to travel and work internationally, in countries such as India and Syria and has documented the AIDS crisis in Africa. His newer images include the British landscape, notably of Somerset, where he now lives with his family.

Don’t miss this superb opportunity to witness McCullin’s unique contribution to global photojournalism!
